Old
Dalby Day 2006
The aim of Old Dalby day is to provide
a family day of fun and to raise funds for local and national charities.
This year, the 23rd Old Dalby Day, the weather held apart from a
few light showers and another successful event, opened by Mike and
Delia Nassim, village residents for 23 years, was held. Overall,
the Old Dalby Day charity fund income was around £6,000 (excluding
expenses), with other village organisations including the Scouts,
Village Hall, Pre-school, Youth Club and the Cricket Club earning
several thousand pounds more between them.
The Village Green was the focus of the entertainment with a programme
including the Tally Ho Band, martial arts display, Morris Dancers,
gymnastic display, children’s sports, Gun Dogs, pet show etc.
The school site had a remarkable display of classic and vintage
vehicles, more than 130 entries making this one of the largest in
the county. In the School Hall, the Horticultural Show attracted
a large range of high quality entries in the flower, fruit, vegetables
and home produce along with some enterprising children’s entries.
Attractions throughout the village comprised the street market with
craft fair stalls offering a wide variety of goods. Food and drink
were provided by the Village Hall, barbeques at the school and on
the Green and teas/cakes at the vicarage, Green and school plus
two bars.
Country Crafts and rare breeds were also on display adjacent to
the Green, the Play Park had children’s rides and activities.
Overall, this year’s event attracted many visitors who typically
commented that they had a very enjoyable day.
Chairman of the ODD Organising Committee, Phil Page, commented ’Old
Dalby Day is a genuine community event that we can all be very proud
of’.
