Chairman’s report

Old Dalby Day 2009 – August Bank Holiday Monday.

Our 26th year and still growing.

Each year the residents of Old Dalby join together to put on the show that is “Old Dalby Day” and every year we wonder and worry if it will be a success. Having completed the day we now look back and ask ourselves “Why did we worry”, because YES it was a great success.

There were two organisational problems on the day but these were overcome without too much upheaval: the Tally Ho Band decided to disband on the day before Old Dalby Day which caused the organisers a small headache, and the display of Owls decided not to fly in which was a disappointment to many people.

Due to the lack of the Tally Ho Band we were unable to escort our guest of the day, Mr Colin Brown of Belvoir Brewery on the traditional marching band parade through the Village, instead an American Motor Biking Sheriff escorted Colin from the School to the Village Green where he opened our proceedings with a humorous and interesting speech.

Among the new items for this year were the two Gipsy Caravans, one located on the Village Green and the other set within Langham House Paddock. Also located at Langham House Paddock were the very skilful farrier and a small group of alpacas. All of which proved to be highly interesting and successful.

At the School site we had a few changes: the Cricket Club took control of the BBQ and they bowled over the queuing crowd with some super burgers. Roger Stenson, the new man in charge of the Classic / Vintage vehicles changed the display line up from previous years by allowing in some more up-to-date style of vehicles, a move which proved to be a popular decision as this allowed the younger viewing public to relate to the show.

This is a day which brings to Old Dalby so many visitors and much joy to those visitors, but in turn enables our local organisations to receive some monetary intake they so desperately require to continue their activities.

The Old Dalby Day Trustees who take on the task of knitting together the various local organisations, the stall holders and the other various activities which go towards making such a wonderful day would like to thank everyone who participated in anyway (small or large) towards making Old Dalby Day such a superb day.
